of the meter loop is the responsibility of the consumer.
- The weather head must be at least twelve feet from ground level.
- The service contact point must be at least ten feet above ground level.
- A minimum of eighteen inches of wire outside of the weather head is
required. The neutral must be clearly identified.
- "Through the roof" type risers are required to be at least two
inch rigid conduit/pipe, fastened securely to the wall, and rise at least
two feet above the roof. Riser diameter must conform to National Code
requirements.
- Other risers with the weather head below the roof will be at least one
inch conduit (schedule 40 PVC and EMT are allowed). An appropriate contact
point must be supplied. Riser diameter must conform to National Code
requirements.
- The meter base must be between five and six feet from ground or floor
level. The conductor must meet National Code requirements for the main
breaker (or total amperage of installed breakers). Minimum conductor size
is #6 copper. Triplex and SE cable are not allowed. The neutral conductor
must be continuous (un-cut) from the weather head to the breaker box
neutral bus. Conduit straps must be placed at least every thirty inches.
- Minimum ground rod requirement is eight feet by one-half inch copper
clad and placed in undisturbed soil.
- Minimum meter loop allowed is 240 volt, 3 wire. The meter loop should be
located on an outside wall. It must be accessible by any JEC
representative. The meter loop is required to be water tight. A trailer
house or mobile home will not be accepted as a contact point for electric
service.
