The pole must
be a minimum of eighteen feet long and at least a five inch diameter at
the top.
- The pole must be creosoted or treated to withstand weather and
discourage insect infestation.
- The pole must be at least four feet in the ground.
- The weather head must be between twelve and eighteen inches down from
the top of the pole.
- A main breaker is required. Minimum size is 60 amp, 240 volt.
- The riser must be at least one inch diameter rigid pipe, EMT, or
schedule 40 PVC. The conductor must meet national electric code
requirements for the main breaker size. Straps must be placed every
thirty inches. No consumer access to the riser is allowed.
- Minimum conductor size is #6 copper. Triplex and SE cable are not
allowed.
- The neutral wire must be continuous (not cut or broken) from the
weather head to the neutral bus in the breaker box.
- The meter loop must be water tight.
- The meter base must be between five and six feet from ground or floor
level.
- At least eighteen inches of wire must extend from the weather head.
- A ground rod must be installed at least twelve inches from the meter
loop pole in undisturbed soil. It must be at least 1/2 inch diameter and
eight feet long and copper clad. The ground rod can be below ground
level, however it can not be covered until the meter loop is connected
to the Cooperative facilities by a JEC employee.
- The meter loop must be accessible to JEC representatives.
- Installation of the meter loop and pole are the consumer's
responsibility.
- These guidelines will be strictly enforced for the protection of the
consumer and the Cooperative. If you are unfamiliar with the National
Electric Code, an electrician is recommended.
